Help Children Orphaned by Domestic Violence:

To bring hope, healing and happiness to children of domestic violence homicide.

Domestic homicide is a preventable act of domestic violence that leaves an estimated 4,000 children orphaned each year in the U.S. Most of these children lose both parents to murder-suicide. In other cases, their mom or dad is killed and the perpetrating parent/person is incarcerated.

While children of domestic homicide typically go to live with a loving grandparent, aunt, uncle or other family member, sometimes they are placed in foster homes temporarily or permanently.

When a domestic homicide happens- or any family tragedy for that matter- chaos, confusion and deep sorrow are natural.

Oftentimes, when families are coping with such a tragic loss, the last thing they think of is to ask for help. They are busy just surviving.

These situations become even more pervasive because in addition to being psychologically affected by the murder, some children are present during the murder and most are often previous victims of abuse.

The Purple Ribbon Fund for Children was created to: help alleviate this stress, meet the basic yet critical needs of these vulnerable children and empower their caregivers through supportive care.

ABOUT THE PURPLE RIBBON FUND FOR CHILDREN:

This special fund brings hope, healing and happiness to children who have lost a parent or both parents to domestic violence.
Purple Ribbon Council is the only designated national agency working to ensure that the surviving children and the rest of their extended family receive the supportive care and basic assistance they need to recover and move on.
